Our Vision | Crossroads Covenant Church wants to make an impact on your life, in our community, and in the world for God.
Our Desire | is that everyone knows that their Value, Worth, and Purpose come from God.
Our Goal | is to build Kingdom Discipleship Makers
Our Values | What drives us forward
We believe the Bible is the Word of God and our standard for living.
We follow Jesus.
We are welcoming and loving.
We embrace and support our community worldwide.
We are a church in motion.
Discipleship in the most simplest of terms is Taking Steps Toward Jesus.
“It’s about learning to bring our whole selves before Christ. While one aspect of our life might be in alignment with God, that doesn’t mean every aspect of us is. Discipleship is learning to lay every part of us at the altar.” - Pastor Alex Hardt
or as John Mark Comer said,
“Who are you following? Everybody is following somebody. Put another way: We’re all disciples. The question isn’t, Are you a disciple?...but... Who or what are you a disciple of?”
Discipleship has two primary Components to it.
MAKING DISCIPLES
Helping People to Move inward toward Jesus
MULTIPLYING DISCIPLES
Moving Outward To Help People Move Inward
All Discipleship is made up of three Rhythms
When we are talking about Discipleship in regards our Faith. Those Rhythms are very similar.
The way we have phrased that at Crossroads is: Connecting to GOD, Connecting to Others, and Connecting Others to GOD.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’- Matthew 22:37-39
UP | CONNECT TO GOD
We receive the promises of God and reorient oneself to God.
This looks like | Worship, Prayer, God's Word, Sacraments, Baptism, Communion, and other Spiritual Habits.
IN | CONNECT TO OTHERS
We become persons in the fullest sense in our relationship with God and with others.
This looks like | Groups, Discipleship, and Fellowship
OUT | CONNECT OTHERS TO GOD
We believe that God is love and the best way to reflect God in the world is to live out his love through our thoughts, words, and actions
This looks like | Serving, Giving, Evangelism, Stories, Missions, and Outreach
HABITS
Now Rhythms are only as Strong as the Habits you institute around them. A habit supports the reorienting of oneself around whatever we are following.
At Crossroads the way those Habits of Discipleship are demonstrated are through what I call GROWING habits.
Generosity, Relationships, Openness to God, Worship, Impact, New Life, and Gifts.
EXPRESSIONS
Now these Habits can be expressed through a variety of ways and for each person they may be expressed differently.
So for one person cultivating the habit of Relationships might mean Small groups and for another it might mean One on one and for another it might mean mentorship.
Think about the kind of ripples that could come about by living simply for Jesus, by removing the Junk or Distractions from our life, and becoming a disciple of Jesus.
Following Jesus means practicing a way of life.
These Rhythms, Habits, and Expressions are the way we practice the way of life.
It’s the way we take steps toward Jesus!
We invite you to explore our beliefs and join us in our pursuit of living out our faith in boldness and passion.
The Old and the New Testaments are the living, active, and powerful Word of God. They are the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Peter 3:14-16; Hebrews 4:12)
Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus. When we repent of sin, and trust in Jesus’ work on the cross we are born again.
(John 3:16-19; John 14:6; John 16:7-12)
Jesus Christ was fully human and fully divine.
(John 10:30; John 11:35; Mark 4:38; Luke 2:52)
He died on a cross for our sins, rose from the dead, and lives forever at the Father’s right hand.
(1 Cor. 15:1-8)
The Holy Spirit lives in all believers and gives spiritual gifts as he chooses. He gives them to empower the Church for growth and mission
(Matthew 28:18-19; Mark 16:14-20; Romans 12:3-7;1 Cor. 12:1-11; Eph. 4:11-13)
God is One in three Persons co-equal and co-eternal: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(Deut. 6:4; Genesis 1:26; John 10:30; 2 Cor. 13:14)
The Church is a fellowship of those who believe. We love and forgive and trust one another.
(Romans 12:3-21; Ephesians 4:25-32)
Every person has an eternal destination: either eternal life with God or eternal separation from Him.
(Hebrews 9:27-28; Matt. 25:46; Rev. 20:10-15)
Jesus will return to reclaim all creation for the Father and to take believers home to heaven.
(Rev. 1:8; Rev. 22:13-21)
We are part of the worldwide Christian church.
We confess Jesus Christ and the faith of the apostles as recorded in the Holy Scriptures. We believe the authority of the Bible is supreme in all matters of faith, doctrine, and conduct, and it is to be trusted. “Where is it written?” and is the Covenant congregation’s touchstone of discussion with regard to faith and practice.
The word catholic literally means universal. This means we understand ourselves to be a part of the community of believers that began with Jesus’ first followers, is alive today, and will continue until Christ comes again.
*We are not part of the Catholic denomination.
*When spelled with a capital "C," Catholic refers to the Roman Catholic Church or one of its members. When spelled with a lower case "c," catholic means universal, throughout all time and places, and points to the essential unity or wholeness of the church in Christ
We stand in the mainstream of a church renewal movement of the sixteenth century called the Protestant Reformation. Especially important is the belief that we are saved by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, not by anything that we can do. The Covenant Church is also shaped by Pietism, a renewal movement that originated in seventeenth-century Europe and emphasized the need for a life that is personally connected to Jesus Christ, a reliance on the Holy Spirit, and a call to service in the world.
A series of religious awakenings flowered in Europe and America during the nineteenth century and provided rich soil for the early growth of the Covenant Church with our passion for mission. Evangelicals historically have been characterized by a strong insistence on biblical authority, the absolute necessity of new birth, Christ’s mandate to evangelize the world, the continuing need for education and formation in a Christian context, and a responsibility for benevolence.
The Evangelical Covenant Church seeks to form and nurture communities that are deeply committed to Jesus Christ and passionately engaged in Christ’s mission in the world. The purpose of Covenant affirmations is to make clear the values and principles that have guided the Evangelical Covenant Church since its founding in 1885.
- We affirm the centrality of the Word of God.
- We affirm the necessity of the new birth.
- We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the church.
- We affirm the Church as a fellowship of believers.
- We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.
- We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ.
